Last offseason, Ravens coaches and players spent a lot of time talking about moving on from Super Bowl XLVII. They were determined to show there was no hangover.
This offseason, the Ravens are looking to move on from last year for a different reason.
After an 8-8 season and missing the playoffs for the first time in six years, Baltimore isn't looking in the rear view mirror or checking its blind spots. It's all about heading forward.
Harbaugh was asked whether the team puts last season behind them more and more with each and every practice.
"To me, [the media] just keep hammering it," he said. "It's good for us to hear it. Keep beating the crap out of us with it. It's good for us. It motivates us."
The Ravens have had plenty of changes to take their mind off last year.
They welcomed in Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak and a whole new offensive system, which kept minds busy during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.
The defense continued to turn over with more youth, including rookie inside linebacker C.J. Mosley, defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan and safety Terrence Brooks. All three are trying to make an impression with the first team.
"We're all [in this] as a group, and good or bad, you've got to move on," guard Marshal Yanda said. "Two years ago was the Super Bowl. Last year we didn't do as well, but either way we're moving on. We're looking forward to this year and just getting it right this year. No doubt about it."
A few Ravens veterans added last year were surprised by the outcome of the season.
Defensive end Chris Canty said it was the worst record he's had as a professional football player in 10 years. Outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil said it was simply "not good enough."
"We definitely have room for improvement," he said.
Often, the talk around this time of year is about personal player goals. How can they take the next step? How many yards can they get?
But there's a standard answer from nearly all the Ravens about their goals for this year.
"We're out here to win, and we did not win enough to get to the playoffs," inside linebacker Daryl Smith said. "But we definitely have some things to build on and look forward to that."
