Ravens Release Regular-Season Depth Chart

02_DepthChart_news.jpg

The roster has been trimmed to 53 players and the Ravens are moving full-speed ahead for the Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. After six weeks of practice and four preseason games, the initial position battles are over and the Ravens have their lineup set for the regular-season opener.

The team released the latest depth chart Tuesday, which can be viewed below in its entirety (mobile users tap the "View in Browser" button at the top of the page). As in the past, the depth chart was put together by the team's public relations staff, not by Head Coach John Harbaugh.

There were no big surprises, but here are a few key observations:

  • Running back Bernard Peirce is the starting running back with seventh-year back Ray Rice suspended for the first two games of the year. Rice isn't even listed on the current depth chart because he doesn't currently count against the 53-man roster. Rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro, who led the NFL in rushing yards during the preseason, is currently listed as the third-string rusher and veteran Justin Forsett is the top backup.

-  As expected, first-round pick C.J. Mosley is listed as a starting inside linebacker, making him the first defensive rookie to open the season as the starter since Haloti Ngata in 2006.

-  Cornerbacks Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson are the backups behind starting corners Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb. Recently-signed veteran Derek Cox is currently third-string.

-  The Ravens are very thin on the defensive front. The team has just five defensive linemen after season-ending injuries to Kapron Lewis-Moore and Brent Urban. Ngata (DT), Chris Canty (DE) and Brandon Williams (NT) are the starters, while DeAngelo Tyson (DE/NT) and rookie Timmy Jernigan (DT) are the only backups.

-  Undrafted rookie James Hurst is the backup left tackle in the event that Eugene Monroe was to go down with an injury.

-  Rookie safety Terrence Brooks is listed as the third-string free safety behind Darian Stewart and Jeromy Miles.

- Just like last year, Courtney Upshaw and Elvis Dumervil are listed as dual starters at outside linebacker opposite Terrell Suggs. Outside linebacker is the only position where two players are listed as the starters.
