The Caw: Ray Lewis Will Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Did you really expect Ray Lewis to retire to a rocking chair?

His first physical, freak-of-nature feat is perhaps the mac daddy of them all.

He's climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Lewis tweeted the news Thursday afternoon. He'll leave for Tanzania in one month and he's doing it to raise money and awareness for clean water projects in East Africa.

"I am so FIRED UP for this adventure, but until then, I need your help to bring clean water wells to thousands of children and families," Lewis said on a LockerDome online posting.

Fans can support Lewis' cause by spreading the word via Twitter and donating $10 to TackleKili. By helping the cause, fans are entered into a contest for a Lewis autographed helmet.

So far there have been 2,295 entries (rapidly climbing) and there are 11 days left to contribute.

I've looked into climbing Kilimanjaro myself. It's no picnic any way you look at it, but there are different levels of difficulty with six trails. The most scenic (and steepest) takes about a week, but some are done in a day.

So I'm wondering, is Lewis going to the summit?

According to Kilimanjaro National Park, only 41 percent of trekkers reach the summit. The highest mountain in Africa comes in at 19,341 feet above sea level.

Oh, and multiple people die trying every year.

Hope Lewis isn't afraid of heights, and I can't wait to see the pictures. If there's anybody I would bet on to make it to the top, it would be him.
