Former Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley, the team's first-round pick in 2014, announced his retirement Thursday after 10 seasons in the NFL, including five in Baltimore.
Mosley was drafted to be the long-term solution at inside linebacker following Ray Lewis' retirement. Those were huge shoes to fill, and Mosley carved his own impressive career.
He was a four-time Pro Bowler in Baltimore, including as a rookie and again from 2016-2018. Mosley totaled 579 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and nine interceptions as a Raven.
His interception of Baker Mayfield in the 2018 regular-season finale sealed the Ravens' AFC North title and still stands as one of the best moments in M&T Bank Stadium history.
Though the Ravens wanted to re-sign Mosley following that season, the New York Jets blew him away with a five-year, $85 million deal.
After returning an interception for a touchdown in his first game, Mosley suffered a groin injury that sidelined him for essentially the rest of that season, and he opted out the following year during the COVID-19 pandemic. He still became a defensive leader for "Gang Green" over the following four seasons, including another Pro Bowl year in 2022.
Mosley appeared in just four games last season due to toe and neck injuries and was released by the Jets on March 12. He announced his retirement on his 33rd birthday.
