Malaki Starks is already turning heads during his first training camp.
Starks was one of several rookies to have a strong Day 2 of training camp practice on Thursday. The first-round safety broke fast on the ball to knock down a pass intended for Charlie Kolar over the middle in seven-on-seven drills. He followed that up with an interception in the end zone in 11-on-11 work.
Starks wasn't the only rookie in the secondary to hop on the takeaway train.
Undrafted cornerback Reuben Lowery, who had three interceptions in OTAs and minicamp, had another one Thursday. The Tennessee-Chattanooga product beat the receiver to the ball over the middle in 11-on-11 drills.
"Reuben, he's all ball," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "He's all ball, every day. [That's] all he thinks about, all he talks about. He eats it, sleeps it. Comes out here and flies around. [He's] a very smart player."
Here are other notes from Thursday's practice:
- Jackson had a near-flawless day. He made several pinpoint throws, including a deep ball to Rashod Bateman down the sideline, where he dropped the ball in a bucket between Nate Wiggins and Kyle Hamilton for roughly a 50-yard gain. Bateman ran a beautiful double move to get open.
- Undrafted rookie John Hoyland was perfect on the day, drilling 9-of-9 field goal attempts, the longest of which was 43 yards. Tyler Loop did not kick as the Ravens have a plan to rotate the kickers.
- Roquan Smith punched the ball out of Kolar's hands for a fumble after Jackson connected with the tight end on a sidearm throw to the flat. Smith later was step-for-step with Justice Hill on a deep wheel route, forcing an incompletion and continuing to display his tip-top shape.
- Keaton Mitchell once again showcased his burst on an outside run where he beat defenders up the sideline. He continues to look like he's back at full strength.
- Trenton Simpson nabbed an interception over the middle after a Cooper Rush pass bounced off the hands of Isaiah Likely.
- Likely later made up for the deflection in seven-on-seven drills, hauling in a one-handed catch on a touch pass from Jackson near the hash marks for a big gain.
- C.J. Ravenell and Aeneas Peebles both had quarterback pressures on Rush. Ravenell's pressure forced Rush to throw an incompletion to the sideline.
- John Jenkins began practice with a bat down at the line of scrimmage.
