Media Advisory - Ravens and M&T Bank Partner on Earth Day 2011 Service Project

The Baltimore Ravens and M&T Bank join together in an Earth Day service project this Friday (4/22) to renovate the Warner Street section of the Gwynns Falls Trail.

Coordinated by Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, close to 75 volunteers will collaborate in several service activities, including landscaping, trash removal and bench building in an effort to rejuvenate Gwynns Falls Trail, a continuous recreation corridor that connects over 30 neighborhoods in West and Southwest Baltimore. The Warner Street section of the Trail has become a key location for local residents to walk with their pets and enjoy the surrounding natural environment.

Among the volunteers will be members of BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) who regularly use the grounds as a setting to walk, care for and comfort abused or stray dogs in the Baltimore area.

In 2010, the Ravens and M&T joined to refurbish the historic Carroll Park section of the Trail.

The Ravens' Earth Day 2011 service project is an extension of the organization's continuing efforts to remain environmentally conscious. Current initiatives range from gameday recycling programs at M&T Bank Stadium to energy conservation practices, both at the stadium and the team's Owings Mills training facility.

M&T Bank, the official bank and a vital community partner of the Ravens, will provide close to 30 volunteers. The bank additionally supports the environment by building eco-friendly branches. The latest one with the new signature design is in Rockville, Md. The branch's overall design reduces energy usage by 25 percent and its plumbing design reduces water usage by 30 percent. Renewable energy credits have been purchased to supply power to the facility through sustainable sources.

Baltimore City Recreation and Parks is dedicated to providing and supporting recreational and educational opportunities throughout Baltimore's near 6,000 acres of park land and public space.
