Eligibility for Practice Squad

The following free agent players are eligible to be signed to a Practice Squad:

(A) Players who do not have an Accrued Season of free agency credit; or

(B) Players who have one or more Accrued Seasons, but who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during each of such Accrued Seasons.

Note: Any Player who has an Accrued Season during which he was on the Active List for nine or more regular season games is not eligible for the Practice Squad.

A player may serve on a Practice Squad a maximum of three seasons. However, a player who has served two seasons on a Practice Squad, as defined below, is permitted to serve on a Practice Squad in a third season only if the team by which he is employed that season has 53 players on its Active/Inactive List during the entire period of his employment.

Players on the Active/Inactive List may not be signed directly to a Practice Player Contract, but first must be terminated via waivers.

A player shall be deemed to have served on a Practice Squad in a season if he has passed the club's physical examination and has been a member of a club's Practice Squad for at least three regular season or postseason games (a bye week counts as a game provided that the player is not terminated until after the regular season or postseason weekend in question). If a player has served two such seasons on a Practice Squad, he shall be deemed to have served a third season if he has passed the club's physical examination and has been a member of a club's Practice Squad for at least one regular season or postseason game (including a bye week).

Note: A player who is eligible to be signed to the Practice Squad at the beginning of a season remains eligible for the Practice Squad for the remainder of the regular season and postseason, regardless of the number of games that he is a member of the Active/Inactive List during that season.

As an example, if a player who is eligible for the Practice Squad is signed to a team's Active List after the second game, is a member of the 53-player Active/Inactive List for nine games, and is terminated, he remains eligible to be signed to the Practice Squad during the remainder of the regular season and postseason.
