Steve Luette (South Carroll) Named Ravens High School Coach of the Week

Steve Luette, head coach of the South Carroll (Sykesville, Md.) varsity football team, has been named Ravens High School Coach of the Week for the sixth week of the 2010 NFL season. Presented by Toyota, this is the 14th year of the Ravens' award program.

The Cavaliers delivered a shutout against county opponent Manchester Valley (Manchester, Md.) on Thursday (10/14) night, as they held the Mavericks to just 28 total yards of offense en route to a 35-0 finish – their fourth shutout of the season.

Boasting a 7-0 record for the first time in school history, Luette's squad has displayed dominance on both sides of the football, having outscored opponents 284-26.

"We stress the whole game plan," the second-year head coach said. "Our defense is playing really well, our offense is scoring a ton of points, and our special teams are putting us in great position to score."

On Thursday, the Cavaliers' defense forced eight punts and two turnovers, while senior QB Anthony Nardo's three touchdowns – two passing and one rushing – led the offense. South Carroll running backs, senior Ben McCarty and junior Dan Mullen, each scored on the ground.

Luette, who was the team's assistant coach from 1998-2003 before returning as head coach last season, admits there is something special about the group of student-athletes.

"All around, since I've been here, this is the most complete and deepest team we've had," he said. "We've got some guys who can step in when needed, and that's the big difference."

Despite an undefeated record, a collection of shutouts and firm control of the county title race, Luette's locker room remains a humble one.

"We take everything one game at a time," he stated. "Our goal is to get into the playoffs one step at a time, and these records just kind of happened on our way there."

Each week during the season, the Ravens honor a high school coach who has made a significant impact on his athletes. Each winner will be present at the Ravens vs. Saints home game on Dec. 19 for the naming of the Ravens' High School Coach of the Year.

Each weekly recipient receives:
