Head Coach John Harbaugh expects cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee) and several other Ravens to return to practice next week as they ramp up activity before the Sept. 7 season opener.
Alexander has not practiced since Aug. 9. Last week, Harbaugh said Alexander "had something, just to kind of take care of that knee," which was operated on Dec. 31 last year.
However, Harbaugh said Alexander still has time to be ready for Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.
"He's been working hard at non-football stuff, he's been chomping at the bit trying to break out of prison," Harbaugh said. "He's been locked away in there (Under Armour Performance Center training room). It's a nice place, beautiful, but in his mind, it's a prison, nonetheless.
"They're doing what they need to do to get him ready. Practice is important, [but] he's a veteran guy. He wants to practice. When he gets out there, he'll be going at it, but it will be our job to monitor that and make sure we did it right. It's a long season. We want to bring him back the right way."
Harbaugh also said he expects tight end Mark Andrews, fullback Patrick Ricard, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and others not practicing to return to practice at this time next week. Andrews and Awuzie went through workouts on a side field and Ricard watched Monday's practice from the sideline.
Jake Hummel Expected to Return Sept. 3 After Hand Injury
Harbaugh expects veteran inside linebacker Jake Hummel to return to practice Sept. 3 after undergoing a hand procedure. Harbaugh said that Hummel, a special teams ace who was signed during free agency, is expected to play Week 1 and will be on the initial 53-man roster.
"He's going to make the team, he's going to be a big part of what we're doing," Harbaugh said. "He had that hand thing, so he had to go in there this week and do a little minor procedure. He should be practicing next Wednesday and should be good to go for the [Week 1] game, if all goes well, which they say it's going great."
Dayton Wade, Xavier Guillory Undergo Surgery
Wide receivers Xavier Guillory and Dayton Wade suffered injuries during Saturday's finale against the Washington Commanders that required surgery.
"Xavier broke his clavicle, so he'll be out for a while, and Dayton Wade had to have surgery on his chest/ribs [area], so he'll be out for a while," Harbaugh said.
Guillory is an undrafted rookie from Arizona State, while Wade was on the practice squad as a rookie in 2024 after being undrafted.
Ravens May Not Make Additions After Cuts
The high quality of the Ravens' depth has shown during their undefeated preseason, making Tuesday's roster cuts challenging.
Baltimore's front office will of course be "scouring" for talent among the players other teams release, but Harbaugh doesn't see a spot on the roster in desperate need of an upgrade.
"I know they know everybody, but I would be hard-pressed for me to think that we'd bring somebody in here that would be better than who we have," Harbaugh said. "But never say never. And you never know what opportunity might present itself, for sure.''
