Ravens kicker Justin Tucker doesn't have the career longevity of Matt Stover yet, but he just surpassed him in a career achievement.
Tucker has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November. It's his fourth time earning the award and a testament to how effective he's been during his six seasons.
Stover (13 years played) and safety Ed Reed (12 years) won it three times during their careers.
It's the third time that Tucker has won the award in the month of November; he got it in September last year, November 2014 and November 2013. While some kickers struggle with the elements and colder November temperatures, Tucker thrives.
Tucker hit all eight of his field-goal attempts in three games this month. He hit 49- and 53-yard field goals in the Ravens' 23-16 win over the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football.
With the Ravens offense struggling overall (ranked 31st in the league), Tucker has been a primary scoring weapon.
His 23 converted field goals are eighth-most in the NFL, and his 88.5 success rate is 12th-best (he's missed three of his 26 attempts, but just one since Week 4).
The Ravens special teams unit is starting to get the kudos it deserves, and it may lead to another Pro Bowl appearance for the Wolfpack.
On Wednesday, punter Sam Koch was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. One day later, Tucker was honored.
With Tucker about to kick against the Detroit Lions this Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, it's a reminder of one of his best career days and most impressive kicks.
On Monday Night Football, Dec. 16, 2013, Tucker accounted for all 18 of the Ravens' points with six field goals, including a 61-yard game-winning bomb with 38 seconds left. That kick still stands as the longest of his six-year career and it's the most kicks he made in one game.
"Looking back, I don't really put any weight on any kicks in retrospect, but I will say I'm glad I made it," Tucker said Wednesday.
"I'm glad we were able to have a good night on Monday night. That's why you play the game; to go into Monday Night Football, have a big night and get a win with your teammates."
