Lorenzo Taliaferro, Two Others Go On Injured Reserve

The Ravens injured reserve list just got a lot more crowded.

The team placed running back Lorenzo Taliaferro (foot), safety Terrence Brooks (knee) and cornerback Asa Jackson (knee) on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday afternoon.

Putting Brooks and Jackson on IR was expected, but the news about Taliaferro comes as a surprise. The rookie fourth-round pick suffered a foot injury against the Miami Dolphins that kept him out of Sunday's matchup with the Jaguars.

He was originally considered “day-to-day” after the injury, Head Coach John Harbaugh said, but the Ravens ultimately decided to shut him down for the season. Taliaferro's rookie season ends with 68 carries for 292 yards and four touchdowns. He also had eight catches for 114 yards.

The running backs on the active roster are Justin Forsett, Bernard Pierce and undrafted rookie Fitzgerald Toussaint. The Ravens called Toussaint up from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game, and he was active against Jacksonville.

Toussaint does not have a carry this season, but has appeared in two games. In the preseason, he rushed for 123 yards on 21 carries.

Baltimore has been hit hard with injuries this season, and the Ravens now have 16 players on injured reserve. The rookie class has been particularly snake-bitten by injuries, as the Ravens now have five rookies on IR.

Rookie defensive end Brent Urban, cornerback Tramain Jacobs and wide receiver Jeremy Butler also suffered season-ending injuries this year.

To fill the three open spots on the active roster, the Ravens called up offensive lineman Ryan Jensen from the practice squad and signed former Patriots defensive tackle Casey Walker. Baltimore still has an open spot on the 53-man roster.
