News & Notes: Ravens' Starting Offensive Line Is Set, But Tough Roster Decisions Remain

The competition for a starting job on the Ravens' offensive line is over.

Head Coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Andrew Vorhees will be the starting left guard Week 1, joining left tackle Ronnie Stanley, center Tyler Linderbaum, right guard Daniel Faalele, and right tackle Roger Rosengarten.

Left guard was the only position unsettled entering training camp, and Vorhees has prevailed over Ben Cleveland. However, it remains uncertain if the Ravens will keep nine or 10 offensive linemen on the initial 53-man roster.

Cleveland and Joseph Noteboom are veterans with position versatility, Carson Vinson is a fifth-round rookie with potential, and Corey Bullock has started both preseason games at center.

That leaves a group that includes second-year center Nick Samac and seventh-round rookie Garrett Dellinger vying for a roster spot. Third-round rookie offensive lineman Emery Jones Jr. (shoulder) can remain on the non-football injury list, as he has not practiced since being drafted, and doesn't count towards the 53-man roster.

"I'd say we've got the five, then what's the nine if we keep nine?" Harbaugh said. "Do we keep 10? It's hard to do, but we have 10 worthy guys for sure. Then the practice guys are all kind of up in the air right now."

Some Ravens Worked Out at 4 a.m. Shortly After Landing From Dallas

The Ravens' return flight from Dallas after Saturday night's preseason game didn't land until around 3:15 Sunday morning. But that didn't stop a group of players from driving straight from the airport to the Under Armour Performance Center for an early morning workout.

Defensive tackle Broderick Washington Jr. was part of the group and was impressed with the turnout.

"I think it just speaks to the hunger of the team," Washington said. "I think we've got a lot of guys that are hungry, whether that's for a job or a championship."

Washington said Baltimore's entire defensive front is motivated by last year's playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which the Ravens' defense surrendered 147 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns.

"It sucked. It was bad," Washington said. "We pride ourselves on not letting people run the ball. That falls on the front, really. I think everybody took that pretty tough. We've been working on that every day to be the best group that we can be."

Dennis Johnson Expects Travis Jones to Dominate

Defensive tackle Travis Jones may have been headed to his first Pro Bowl in 2024 until a Week 7 ankle injury hampered him for the remainder of the season.

Jones is at full strength again during training camp, moving bodies, clogging running lanes, and pursuing ball carriers. Defensive Line Coach Dennis Johnson believes Jones will have his best season.

"I expect Travis to be the best player on the field whenever he's on the field in general," Johnson said. "I think Travis expects that of himself, just to be more dominant and more consistent with being dominant."

Washington has no doubt Jones will make plenty of noise in 2025.

"If he stays healthy, he's going to be the best nose tackle in the game," Washington said. "He's got all the traits and abilities to be that guy, and I'm excited for him. I can't wait to watch it."

Jarret Johnson Visits Practice and Connects With Tavius Robinson

The Ravens' former No. 95 visited practice on Tuesday to visit with the current No. 95.

Jarret Johnson, a former outside linebacker who spent nine years with Baltimore (2003-2011), attended Tuesday's practice watching from the sideline. A tough, relentless player who helped shape the identity of some outstanding Ravens' defenses, Johnson has a playing style similar to current outside linebacker Tavius Robinson.

Robinson has studied Johnson's game and wears jersey No. 95, as did Johnson. The two spoke after practice, and Johnson was even giving him some hands-on pointers.

"We had a special treat with Double J here," Harbaugh said. "He was here checking out the new No. 95. They'll get a chance to watch some film together.

"I know T-Rob (Robinson) really has a lot of respect for Jarret's game. It's great to have him here. We welcome all the old players back. The tradition, the standard that they set of excellence I think is something our guys respect and strive for.
