Ravens Hire Declan Doyle as Offensive Coordinator

OC-Doyle-16x9

Jesse Minter has officially made a critical hire to lead his offense, bringing Declan Doyle to Baltimore as his offensive coordinator.

Doyle, 29, is a fast-rising coach and offensive strategist who helped the Chicago Bears' offense reach new heights last season.

While Head Coach Ben Johnson called the Bears' offensive plays, Doyle was his offensive coordinator and instrumental in developing the unit's scheme and game plans. It's a promotion for Doyle, as he would assume play-calling duties in Baltimore.

"We are thrilled to welcome Declan to the Ravens Flock," Minter stated. "An architect of offense, Declan will build around our players through communication, collaboration, relationships and trust. His innovative mindset, collaborative spirit, team-first approach and extensive NFL experience make him an outstanding addition to the Ravens organization."

Doyle reportedly withdrew from the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator search, but Baltimore's opening and the opportunity to coach two-time MVP Lamar Jackson was too good an opportunity to forgo.

Doyle would be charged with returning the Ravens' offense to the top of the NFL, a position it held not long ago in 2024 in yards. Baltimore slid to 16th in yards and 11th in points last season, in part because of injuries to Jackson that forced him to miss four games.

Connecting with Jackson and helping him get back to MVP form and beyond in the next stage of his career will be another key task. Jackson and Doyle are the same age.

The Bears made huge offensive strides, going from last in the NFL in yards in 2024 to sixth (369.2) in 2025. They went from 28th in points scored to ninth (25.9).

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had a Year 2 breakout in which he finished seventh in passing yards (3,942) and threw 27 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Chicago won the NFC North crown and beat the rival Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs.

While Doyle was the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL last season, he has a decade of coaching experience. He started as a student assistant at Iowa in 2016. After three seasons there, he jumped to the NFL as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints (2019-2022), then a tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos (2023-2024), before Johnson brought him to Chicago.

Johnson is one of the highest-regarded offensive minds in the NFL, creating his own spin-off of the Shanahan offense that has been highly successful in Chicago and Detroit before that. In addition to learning from Johnson, Doyle also spent five years learning from Sean Payton, another offensive innovator, both in New Orleans and Denver

"Right away, if you're a player or a coach, you're like, 'This guy knows his [stuff]'" Payton told Yahoo! Sports last year. "I was saying, 'Hey, I want to invest a hundred thousand on Declan's future.' If he allows me to buy in at a certain [point], I would do that with him."

"Dec's done a phenomenal job this year," Johnson said after the Bears’ season ended. "He's everything I thought he was gonna be and some. He's got a tremendous presence in front of the players. Extremely smart. ... I think the future's bright for a guy like Declan. Hopefully we can keep him here for a long time."
