Lamar Jackson Makes History Winning Weekly Award

Player of the Week-1920x1080 LJ

The AFC Offensive Player of the Week award has taken up residence in Baltimore.

Lamar Jackson has won the award for the second time this season following his five touchdown "Monday Night Football" performance in Tampa Bay, making it four straight weeks that either Jackson or Derrick Henry has claimed the honor. Henry won the award in Weeks 4 & 6, while Jackson claimed it for Weeks 5 & 7.

It's the first time in NFL history that any team has Offensive Player of the Week over four consecutive weeks.

In 2004, Peyton Manning (Weeks 10 & 12) and Edgerrin James (Week 11) won the honor three straight weeks with the Indianapolis Colts. In 1991, the Buffalo Bills had a three-week run with Thurman Thomas (Weeks 1 & 3) and Jim Kelly (Week 2), as did the Los Angeles Rams in 1989 with Jim Everett (Week 10), Henry Ellard (Week 11) and Willie Anderson (Week 12).

It's just the second time in team history the Ravens have won Player of the Week in four consecutive weeks. The first time came from Weeks 11-14 in 2011 when Terell Suggs won the defensive award twice and Torrey Smith and Ray Rice won the offensive honor.

Winning the award for the 12th time in his career, Jackson led Baltimore with 34 unanswered points and straight scoring drives in Tampa Bay, as Jackson was 17-of-22 passing for 281 yards and ran nine times for 52 yards.

In addition to his passing and running, Jackson displayed his fierce competitive nature by running downfield to throw a key block on Henry's 39-yard-run in the fourth quarter. The Ravens were already leading by 16 points, but Jackson only knows one way to play – doing whatever it takes to win.

"That's unbelievable somebody as a quarterback and his caliber to be that unselfish blocking downfield," Henry said. "That's the type of guy that can have a helluva game and don't even know any stats. All he knows is the guys he threw to and the guys who scored. The dude's just incredible. I think he's the GOAT for sure."

Primetime often brings out Jackson's best. He had another five-touchdown performance against the Los Angeles Rams on "Monday Night Football" during his first MVP season in 2019. With the Ravens riding a five-game winning streak and leading the NFL in total offense, Jackson's latest Monday night will add to his case for winning a third MVP in 2024.

"He'll go down in the history of Monday Night Football, for sure," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "He's got a lot more to go."
