Injury Updates on Lamar Jackson and Other Ravens

QB Lamar Jackson
QB Lamar Jackson

Head Coach John Harbaugh said Monday that Lamar Jackson was not physically able to re-enter Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, even if the game had been closer.

"There was no way he was going to go back into the game," Harbaugh said. "The injury precluded it. The way I know Lamar, if he could've gone in the game, he would've been in the game. That's how he is."

Harbaugh said he's not exactly sure when Jackson suffered his hamstring injury. Harbaugh did not say if Jackson will be able to practice on Wednesday, or if he will be available for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.

For now, it could be Cooper Rush starting Sunday.

"Everybody kind of knows what his game is, and he can play that game and that game is part of what we do," Harbaugh said. "If he's out there, it will be geared toward him. We've got a good group around him. We have a lot of playmakers around him if he's playing. Same thing for Tyler Huntley if he's playing."

Roquan Smith, Marlon Humphrey Reportedly Set to Miss Multiple Weeks

The Ravens have more injury concerns than just Jackson, as linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Nate Wiggins (elbow), and left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) also exited Sunday's game early.

"I've got a pretty good feel for all the injuries and where we're at, really not commenting on those things today," Harbaugh said. "We'll comment on them late in the week a little bit more."

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Smith and Humphrey are both set to miss multiple games.

Humphrey's reported timeline would put him out through the Ravens' bye with a potential return versus the Chicago Bears in Week 8. Smith would be in line to come back in the weeks following.

Undrafted rookie Keyon Martin stepped in for Humphrey at nickel cornerback Sunday in Kansas City. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Martin surrendered three catches on three targets, but for just 18 yards.

Smith leads the Ravens with 34 tackles, including four for loss. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown to seal Baltimore's Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns. Veteran Jake Hummel stepped in next to rookie Teddye Buchanan after Smith exited.

While the Ravens are currently dealing with an onslaught of injuries, Harbaugh expressed confidence in their ability to adjust and compete. They'll need to, as they sit at 1-3 with two tough games against the Texans (1-3) and Los Angeles Rams (3-1) up next before a bye that will help them get healthier.

"We have a really good team. We can win games with our guys, the guys that we have that have to step up," Harbaugh said. "Everybody gets injuries over the course of the season. It's who deals with them the best."
