Baltimore's defense wants more takeaways in 2025, and the emphasis on forcing turnovers was evident at Tuesday's practice.
Rookie linebacker Mike Green and second-year safety Sanoussi Kane showed impressive awareness with interceptions against backup quarterback Cooper Rush.
Green showed his athleticism by dropping into coverage and picking off a pass intended for Isaiah Likely. Rushing the quarterback is Green's forte after leading the FBS with 17 sacks at Marshall. But in addition to rushing from the edge, the second-round pick displayed good instincts going backwards.
Kane has an opportunity to move up the depth chart after playing primarily on special teams as a rookie. The Ravens suffered an injury at safety on Monday when Beau Brade left practice early after inadvertently colliding with a defensive teammate on a deep throw down the sideline. Brade slowly walked off the field with the help of a trainer and did not practice Tuesday. The Ravens are already without safety Ar'Darius Washington, who suffered a torn Achilles earlier this offseason.
Kane, however, has been taking advantage of his reps. His leaping interception in the end zone continued his solid play during OTAs, and Kane also made a nice pass breakup of a pass intended for Likely during seven-on-seven drills.
Here are more notes from Tuesday's practice:
- Wide receiver Anthony Miller made the catch of the day, leaving his feet and stretching out while parallel to the ground to snare a deep ball thrown by Devin Leary.
- Wide receiver Dayton Wade also enjoyed a strong day. Midway through practice, Wade contorted his body and made an acrobatic reception near the back of the end zone. That grab was nullified, however, when an official ruled that the catch was made out of bounds. Wade was livid, but he kept his focus. Later in the session, he got a step on cornerback T.J. Tampa and made a nice over-the-shoulder grab on another accurate throw by Leary.
- The offense worked on several trick plays, and while one resulted in a fumble, OTAs are a great time to iron out wrinkles and try new things.
- Rookie free agent John Hoyland took advantage of his day to kick and was 6-for-6 on field goals from 37, 47, 48, 48, 49, and 52 yards.
- Malaki Starks closed nicely to knock the ball away from Tez Walker on a short route. Starks continues to look comfortable learning the ropes of the Ravens’ defense.
- Inside linebacker Jake Hummel, who signed with the team this offseason, practiced for the first time, following the birth of his child. The Ravens had strong attendance overall Tuesday.
