The Ravens signed veteran guard Laken Tomlinson to the practice squad Tuesday afternoon.
Tomlinson, 33, began the season as the Houston Texans' starting left guard. He started seven of the team's first eight games but was replaced in the starting lineup the past several weeks and waived last week.
The Ravens are looking for more depth at the position with Ben Cleveland suspended for the next three games for violating the NFL's substances of abuse policy.
The 6-foot-3, 323-pound Tomlinson was a Pro Bowler in 2021. A 2015 first-round pick out of Duke, he has started nearly every game he's played in over his 11-year career, split between the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, and Texans.
This season, he ranks 57th among all NFL guards who have played at least 20% of their team's snaps, according to Pro Football Focus' grades. Ravens left guard Andrew Vorhees is ranked at No. 49 and right guard Daniel Faalele is No. 54.
Head Coach John Harbaugh was asked for his evaluation of his guards in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I thought the guards played exceptionally well in the run game. They were moving people; they were wearing people out," Harbaugh said. "So, that was good to see. I thought they were mostly good in the pass game, but too inconsistent, probably.
"There were two or three, each of them had, probably; Daniel had a couple in the pass game, and Andrew might've had one or two in the run game that he wants back. But every player has plays they want back."
The Ravens gave rookie Emery Jones Jr. a look at left guard in a rotation with Vorhees against the Bengals on Thanksgiving night. Jones played 16 offensive snaps, but Harbaugh said "based on that performance, you couldn't say it was better or even the same" as Vorhees or Faalele.
The Ravens released veteran outside linebacker Carl Lawson to make room for Tomlinson on the practice squad. Lawson played in one game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thanksgiving and made one tackle with 26 defensive snaps.
