If there were ever any questions about Tyler Loop's leg strength, he certainly answered them Friday.
Loop went 10-for-10 on field goals during a hot Day 3 of training camp practice, including a stretch of seven straight successful kicks capped by a 63-yarder that had the distance to be good from at least a couple more yards out.
Loop also converted a 68-yard attempt on the opposite field on a non-team drill.
Loop's performance came a day after John Hoyland went 9-for-9 on Thursday, as the two rookies continue to battle it out for the starting job.
"He had a good day. It was a good test day," Head Coach John Harbaugh said of Loop. "[He] had kicks kind of situationally all week, and then to come out here and kick it deep like that is a good day."
Here are other notes from Friday's practice:
- Nate Wiggins started practice on a high note, blowing up a wide receiver screen by pushing the blocker into the receiver. On the next play, he stuffed a toss play to the outside. The second-year cornerback later broke up a deep pass down the right sideline intended for Rashod Bateman, nearly coming away with an interception after juggling the ball following the deflection. Wiggins broke up another pass intended for Bateman shortly after the deflection and followed up the play with a "seatbelt" celebration with new teammate Jaire Alexander.
- Bateman got the best of Wiggins on a different play, beating him on a slant and hauling in a pass from Lamar Jackson.
- DeAndre Hopkins returned to practice after sitting out Thursday for precautionary reasons. The veteran receiver wasted no time getting involved, coming up with a few catches on crossing routes, one of which was an impressive diving catch in seven-on-seven drills in which he came back to the ball to undercut cornerback T.J. Tampa.
- After a mishandled center-quarterback exchange, Keaton Mitchell was patient and found an open rushing lane created by stout blocking up front. Mitchell put his foot in the ground and burst to the outside for an impressive gain.
- Isaiah Likely now has back-to-back days with a one-handed reception, continuing to demonstrate why he's one of the most skilled tight ends in the league. He stuck out his left hand to haul in a pass along the sideline during seven-on-seven drills.
- Defensive tackle Aeneas Peebles batted a pass down at the line of scrimmage, as the sixth-round rookie continues to showcase his athleticism up front.
- Even after bulking up a bit this offseason, Odafe Oweh's athleticism hasn't gone anywhere. He used a power rush to get past Ronnie Stanley for what would have likely been a sack, and on the next play, used his speed to burn the edge for what may have been another.
- Rookie inside linebacker Teddye Buchanan broke up a pass over the middle intended for Dayton Wade in seven-on-seven drills, nearly coming up with an interception.
