Like everyone else, Zay Flowers noticed that fellow first-round 2023 draftmate Jaxon Smith-Njigba reset the wide receiver market this offseason with a record four-year, $168.6 million contract.
But while Flowers is also eligible for a contract extension for the first time this offseason, he's focused on a different sort of business.
"Congrats to him. He did that one," Flowers said with his trademark big smile. "I ain't really paying attention to [my contract], if I'm being honest. I go train every day. I let my agents handle that."
Smith-Njibga is coming off NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. Flowers is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl and 1,000-yard seasons.
Whenever it comes, Flowers' next contract will be a very lucrative one. While he eschewed talking about his prospective deal, Flowers did make it clear who he wants it to come from. When asked if it's his preference to stay in Baltimore, Flowers said, "Absolutely."
"I don't want to go nowhere else," he said.
Flowers is the best homegrown wide receiver in Ravens franchise history. Since he entered the NFL three years ago, Flowers has the 11th-most receiving yards in the league (3,128).
It remains to be seen whether Baltimore will add another veteran wide receiver, but for now, Flowers said he feels more responsibility to be a leader in the room despite being just 25 years old. He is also excited about what he's seen so far from Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle's scheme.
"Explosive plays. It's going to be fun to play in," Flowers said.
