Mailbag: Who Are the Ravens' Offensive Coordinator Candidates?

Denver Broncos Pass Game Coordinator Davis Webb

Mink: According to reports, the Ravens' offensive coordinator candidates so far are Broncos Pass Game Coordinator Davis Webb, Bears Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle, Lions Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers Coach Scottie Montgomery, and former Commanders Offensive Coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Joe Brady was “very high” on the Ravens’ list for offensive coordinator, but the Bills hired him to be their head coach.

There could certainly be other offensive coordinator candidates that Minter and the Ravens will request to interview. Either way, the four aforementioned candidates are all very intriguing, and the Ravens' job is highly desirable.

The Ravens interviewed Webb for their head coach position earlier this month. A 31-year-old former NFL backup quarterback, Webb worked with Bo Nix and under Sean Payton in Denver the past three seasons. Webb has drawn strong reviews for his football intelligence and ability to connect with players.

Doyle is another fast-rising young coach who just finished a successful offensive coordinator debut under first-year Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson. The Bears made huge offensive strides, going from last in the NFL in yards in 2024 to sixth in 2025, and Caleb Williams had a Year 2 breakout. While Johnson called the offensive plays, Doyle is a highly regarded coach in his own right who helped craft Chicago's prolific offensive game plans.

Montgomery has a more extensive resume in the NFL and college. He was last an offensive coordinator at the University of Maryland from 2019-2020 and spent the past three seasons as a senior offensive position coach (running backs and wide receivers) on Dan Campbell's staff in Detroit.

Kingsbury has long been a hot name in coaching circles and has a long track record of helping develop dual-threat quarterbacks, from Patrick Mahomes to Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Lamar Jackson and Ravens receivers have been vocal in their support for Kingsbury.

We'll see who, if anybody else, joins the list. It's clear Minter is doing his due diligence because it's a critically important move and there are many moving pieces still around the league.

Brown: I think Minter loves the high expectations that come with this job.

Having spent four years on the Ravens' coaching staff (2017-20) gives Minter intimate knowledge of how the organization thinks and operates. He knows the standard is extremely high in Baltimore. Minter was on the staff in 2019 when Baltimore had the best record in franchise history (14-2).

Macdonald and Minter coached together in Baltimore for four years on the defensive staff. They are friends and still talk frequently, according to Minter's father, Rick.

875: Rick Minter Talks About His Son's Return to Baltimore, Coaching Roots & More

Team insiders Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing speak with Rick Minter, father of new Head Coach Jesse Minter and longtime coach himself, about how Jesse has grown as a coach, what makes him ready to be a head coach for the first time, what his defense will look like, when his family knew he was destined for coaching, and more.

Comparisons between Macdonald and Minter are bound to be made because they share those connections and more. But I wouldn't worry about that, and I don't think Minter's worried about that either.

They are different men coaching different teams. Minter is going to be judged by how he does with the Ravens, whether Macdonald wins a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks next week or not. The Ravens were generally regarded as the most attractive head coach opening because of their talented roster and rich history. Minter knows exactly what he's getting into. Which is exactly why he's thrilled to return as head coach.

Mink: No, I don't think the Ravens will have a roster overhaul this offseason. Minter's vision isn't all that different from the Ravens' previous vision.

He'll have his own way of doing things, but let's not forget that Minter was part of the crew that crafted the newest iteration of the Ravens' defensive scheme, which the Ravens have been drafting players to fit for years.

Kyle Hamilton is a perfect fit in Minter's scheme, for example. I think Marlon Humphrey also makes sense in what Minter likes to do.

The Ravens had a strong roster last season. It just didn't materialize into enough wins. I don't think Baltimore will blow up the roster with a first-year head coach.

Brown: Let's talk offensive trenches first, then defense.

The offensive line play was inconsistent last season and needs to be better next season for the Ravens to win a championship. I'd expect the Ravens to draft at least one offensive lineman if not two, and I think second-year guard Emery Jones Jr. will compete for a starting job.

The biggest question on the offensive line is whether Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum, a pending free agent, will re-sign with the Ravens. If Linderbaum departs, it will leave the Ravens with another major need to address.

Defensively, the future status of defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike, who suffered a season-ending neck injury in Week 2, is unclear.

"Not having Nnamdi this year was a horrible situation for our team," General Manager Eric DeCosta said earlier this month. "I think it affected us in different ways, in many ways. A great player, a great person, a special person. Still working through a lot of his different ideas and things that hopefully we can get more information about his situation. But, more than that, I couldn't talk about specifics."

After finishing No. 1 in run defense in 2024, allowing just 80.1 yards per game, the Ravens dropped to 10th (106.6) in 2025. Their pass rush also suffered due to Madubuike's absence, finishing with the third-fewest sacks in the league. I think the Ravens will definitely look to add at least one interior pass rusher.
