As Ravens training camp approaches, we'll look at six of the top position group competitions: wide receiver, offensive line, outside linebacker, cornerback, safety, and kicker.
In the Hunt
- Jaire Alexander
- Jalyn Armour-Davis
- Chidobe Awuzie
- Marlon Humphrey
- Bilhal Kone
- Robert Longerbeam
- T.J. Tampa
- Nate Wiggins
- Reuben Lowery (undrafted rookie)
- Keyon Martin (undrafted rookie)
- Marquise Robinson (undrafted rookie)
Projected Starters
The Ravens have arguably the NFL's best cornerback trio after adding Alexander to Wiggins and Humphrey. Alexander and Wiggins are expected to be the outside cornerbacks, with Humphrey playing primarily in the slot, where his physicality and versatility can shine. Health has been what's held Alexander back in recent seasons, but Awuzie is also a capable starter if the injury bug bites again.
Best Battle
The Ravens will have a tough time paring down their cornerback room. Alexander, Wiggins, Humphrey, and Awuzie are locks. That leaves Armour-Davis, Tampa, and the two sixth-round rookies, Kone and Longerbeam, competing for likely two (or maybe three) roster spots.
If Armour-Davis or Tampa offer more versatility at safety, that helps their cases. Armour-Davis also has the advantage of experience, as he's played in 19 games despite his injuries. Tampa was a steal in the fourth round last season, but injuries held him to seven games as a rookie. If both Armour-Davis and Tampa make the team, the two rookies could be left duking it out for one spot.
Under the Radar
It will be tough for an undrafted rookie to crack the Ravens' 53-man roster, but Lowery put himself on the map with a strong OTAs and minicamp showing. The 5-foot-9, 204-pound prospect from Tennessee-Chattanooga grabbed multiple interceptions in practice so far this summer. If he keeps making plays and shows he has the versatility to also play at safety, Lowery could follow the path of Ar'Darius Washington, a shorter undrafted defensive back who made the team in 2021.
